Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber, usually shortened to Nitrile, was developed in 1941 as the first oil-resistant rubber. Grades with high acrylonitrile content have better oil resistance, whereas low acrylonitrile content gives better low temperature flexibility and resilience. Nitrile has moderate physical properties but good abrasion resistance. Gas permeability is low. Nitrile is the most widely used elastomer in the seal industry. The popularity of nitrile is due to its excellent resistance to petroleum products and its ability to be compounded for service over a temperature range of -22°F to 212°F. Die-Cut Products stocks a broad spectrum of sponges & rubbers for your custom fabrication needs. This includes both solid rubbers as well as open-cell and closed-cell sponge rubbers. All materials are available with full cure date, shelf life, and supplier test reports right from the mill. Need RoHS-compliant material? We offer that too! Nitrile provides excellent compression set, tear, and abrasion resistance. The major limiting properties of nitrile are its poor ozone and weather resistance and moderate heat resistance, but in many application these are not limiting factors. Typical temperature range for Nitrile Buna-N is -22°F to +212 °F If you have a need for a specialty grade version not listed here please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist you.
