Polycarbonate Thermoplastic
Polycarbonate is a transparent thermoplastic material with good strength and stiffness, and outstanding impact resistance. Polycarbonate thermoforms well, is easy to paint, and bonds well using solvents or adhesives.
Polycarbonate’s toughness and optical clarity make it ideal for a wide variety of applications including: machine guards, indoor/outdoor signs, face shields, card racks, point-of-purchase displays, and more.
Typical thickness ranges for polycarbonate are from 0.030″ thick up to 4.0″ thick.
Grades include abrasion resistant, bullet resistant, FDA compliant (non UV stabilized), flame inhibiting, glass filled, sign, and UV resistant. Lexan™ polycarbonate is a unique engineering thermoplastic which combines a high level of mechanical, optical, thermal, and electrical properties. Makrolon® FD polycarbonate sheet complies with FDA requirements for food contact.
Die-Cut Products stocks a broad spectrum of plastics & foams for your custom fabrication needs. Need RoHS-compliant material? We offer that too!
Benefits of Polycarbonate Thermoplastic
Polycarbonate is a dimensionally stable, transparent thermoplastic with outstanding impact resistance, and is used in many applications which demand high performance properties. Virtualty unbreakable, it is approximately 250 times stronger than plate glass and thirty times stronger than acrylic of equal thickness. Makrolon® FD polycarbonate sheet complies with FDA requirements for food contact. The addition of glass fibers to polycarbonate in various amounts (10%, 20%, 30% and 40%) increases tensile strength, stiffness, compressive strength, and lowers the thermal expansion coefficient.
Optical and mirror grades exist for applications that demand certain visual aspects.
