Nomex® is a registered trade name to DuPont.  This aramid paper sheeting is a high-temperature resistant insulation product with an excellent balance of physical and electrical properties. Nomex is made entirely from synthetic aramid polymer in two forms: short fibers (floc) and microscopic fibrous binder particles (fibrids). Nomex has been widely adopted as electrical insulation for liquid and dry transformers, motors, and generators.

Benefits of Nomex Aramid Paper

  • Nomex Type 410 is a calendered insulation paper which offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical toughness, flexibility and resilience. Type 410 is the original form of Nomex paper, and is widely used in a majority of electrical equipment applications. Available in 11 thicknesses (2 to 30 mils, or .05 to .76 mm), Type 410 is used in almost every known electrical sheet insulation application. Nomex 410, will maintain 300 V/mil (12 kV/mm) dielectric strength for several hours ar 400°C (750°F).
  • Nomex® Type 411 uncalendered, available in thicknesses from 0.13mm to 0.58mm. Often used as soft cushioning material or when conformability and impregnability are of importance.
  • Nomex® Adhesive Tape can be supplied with an adhesive backing as sheets, tape or die-cut components
  • Heat resistance, strength, durability and dielectric properties
  • Recognized by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) as a 220°C insulation.

Other types of Nomex available include:

  • Nomex® Type 414, Type 418, Nomex® Pressboard, T992, T993 and T994
